Coaching Code

Coaches play different roles in various situations, such as teachers, role models, advisors, parents, and trainers for athletes; and excellent coaches enable athletes to have the right experience during participation and cultivate good sportsmanship. To improve the level of coaches, the Hong Kong Coaching Training Committee has specifically formulated a set of coaching guidelines for coaches to follow:
  1. Treat each athlete as an individual and help them reach their full potential.
  2. Promote fair play, respect others, and accept the rules and spirit of their sport.
  3. Enrich coaches’ knowledge and improve their individual performance.
  4. Ensure athletes have a safe training and competition environment, and that sports equipment and facilities meet safety standards.
  5. Ensure training and competition are appropriate for athletes’ age and physical condition.
  6. Help athletes understand the benefits of sports and encourage lifelong participation.
  7. Avoid overtraining athletes and maintain their interest and passion for sports.
  8. Lead by example and refrain from using foul language.
  9. Avoid harassment and discrimination, including sexual harassment, racial discrimination, and disability discrimination.
