Hong Kong Waterskiing Association

Although waterskiing began to gain popularity in the 1950s, it was initially considered a recreational activity with relatively few formal competitions. In 1977, the Hong Kong Waterski Association was officially established and became a member of the International Waterski Federation. The association’s founding purpose was to promote waterskiing, organize related competitions, and select athletes to represent Hong Kong in international competitions. Since its inception, the association has held international waterskiing competitions annually, as well as Hong Kong and open waterskiing championships, and participated in government-sponsored water sports events. In March 2001, the association was registered as a limited company in Hong Kong. In August 2023, it officially changed its name to Hong Kong, China Waterski Association Limited.

OUR MISSION
Our Mission

Unleash your water potential and jump on the water skiing wave!

To promote waterskiing widely, so that every Hong Kong citizen can experience the joy of speeding on the water.

OUR GOAL
Our Goal
In addition to promoting the sport of waterskiing/freestyle waterskiing, we are committed to providing training and equipment for waterskiing/freestyle waterskiing enthusiasts of all levels. We also promote various waterskiing/freestyle waterskiing competitions, hoping to attract more athletes to participate. To this end, we will do our best to provide training for waterskiers at all levels, helping them progress from beginners to international standards and represent Hong Kong in Asian and international competitions.

Medium-term Goals

As our association has been unable to continue using the freshwater lake at West Pa, High Island Reservoir (the current site of the Chong Hing Aquatic Sports Centre) as a training base, Hong Kong athletes have not been able to maintain the high level they achieved in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Following consultations with the government, our association has obtained government approval to use two Saturdays per month from November to May of the following year, starting in 2000. It is hoped that the international performance of Hong Kong athletes will gradually improve. Our association hereby expresses its gratitude to the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Hong Kong Sports and Leisure Development Council for their assistance.
Our medium-term goals are as follows: We will strive to secure a permanent training and competition venue and establish affordable and accessible waterskiing facilities, such as cable waterskiing. We will also provide boats and drivers for members to use for regular training. We aim to encourage and develop young people’s awareness and interest in waterskiing/freestyle waterskiing, and to discover potential young athletes to join the Hong Kong national team. We also envision promoting safety knowledge in waterskiing and speedboat riding, as well as environmentally friendly water sports.
