Hong Kong Waterski Federation Coach Development and Accreditation Guidelines
- The Hong Kong Waterski Federation encourages its members (especially those working as waterskiing or wakeboarding instructors) to register as certified instructors through official channels.
- The requirements for certified instructors must comply with the guidelines issued by the Hong Kong HSBC Coaching Development Scheme, implemented by the Hong Kong Sports Institute on behalf of the Hong Kong Coaching Development Committee.
- Applications for the Hong Kong HSBC Coaching Development Scheme are only accepted from nominees of the Sports Federation (Hong Kong Waterski Federation) who are valid members of the Hong Kong Waterski Federation. Interested members may apply to the Coaching Director of the Hong Kong Waterski Federation or the Coaching Development Committee (all nominated members must complete the application process and pay the relevant fees to the Administrative Assistant of the Hong Kong Waterski Federation).
- The Hong Kong HSBC Coaching Development Scheme consists of four parts. Part A, the General Theory of Sports course, is organized by the Hong Kong Sports Institute, and the class schedule for this course is determined by the Hong Kong Sports Institute. The Hong Kong Coaching Development Committee will issue a certificate for Part A, the General Theory of Sports course, to all participants who meet the attendance requirements and pass the examination. The Part B Sports-Specific Training and Part C Sports-Specific Internship programs are organized by the Hong Kong Waterski Federation (HKWF). These programs are typically held annually, and the HKWF will announce the schedule through member communications or other means. HKWF will issue certificates for Part B Sports-Specific Training and Part C Sports-Specific Internship to participants who meet attendance requirements and pass the tests. Part D Instructor Work Experience Requirements: Part D applicants must have accumulated at least 50 hours of waterskiing or wakeboarding instructor work experience (including commercial or private coaching work) within the past twelve months to meet the requirements. Applicants for HKWF Registered and Accredited Waterskiing Instructor status must submit copies of their Part A, B, and C certificates, as well as proof of their instructor work experience for Part D and information on a consultant (preferably an accredited waterskiing instructor) to the HKWF Instructor Development Committee for reference. HKWF will issue waterskiing instructor certificates to qualified applicants. Accredited instructors must complete and submit an Accredited Instructor Information Form to the Hong Kong Sports Institute and the Hong Kong Waterski Federation for record-keeping. Applicants must obtain Junior Accredited Instructor qualification to be nominated for advanced instructor courses under the HSBC Hong Kong Instructor Development Scheme. To register as an active Accredited Waterskiing Instructor, all instructors must be valid members of the Hong Kong Waterski Federation and participate in instructor development training (minimum six hours) annually. They must also provide proof of at least 30 hours of instructor work within the past twelve months (including commercial or private waterskiing or wakeboarding instructor work). Furthermore, an annual renewal form must be completed and a registration fee of HK$250 must be paid. Registered Accredited Waterskiing Instructors will have priority access to the Federation’s instructor training courses and may have their contact information published in the Federation’s Waterskiing and Wakeboarding Service Guide on its website. Accredited Waterskiing Instructors who have not re-registered will only have their names published in that guide.
